Founded in 1982 by Richard Pedler and Ganasen Govender with just R500 capital, Rigana began by producing water finding and dipping paste. By 1984, the company had acquired its first property in Rossburgh, establishing a factory and expanding its product range to include hand cleaner. The 1990s saw further growth with the introduction of dip tapes and security seals. In 1992, Rigana moved its head office and factory to a larger facility in Pinetown to accommodate its expanding operations.

CEO
My father, Richard Pedler, founded Rigana in 1982. I studied law and was admitted as an Advocate in 1995. I joined Rigana full-time in 2005 and took on the role of CEO in 2008. Now, I am based at our UK office in Winchester, overseeing operations in the region.
Branch Manager
I studied law and became an Attorney in 1996. In 2000, I transitioned to Financial Broking and worked with Corporate Advisory Services until 2022. I then moved to the UK and continued in insurance. In 2024, I joined Rigana as the UK Branch Manager in Winchester.
Grant Pedler formally joined the company in 1997, and by 2000, Rigana had sold its contract-filling division, formed Rigana Marketing, and relocated to new offices in Pinetown. The 2000s were marked by the development of Rigana’s own dip tapes, the launch of the Condor Seal, and expansion through new distributors across Southern Africa. In 2004, Grant Pedler took the helm as CEO, and in 2007, Nirisha joined the company, later becoming COO and a director. Rigana achieved ISO accreditation in 2012, and in 2014, it expanded its head office and factory to a larger space in Westmead and opened a new branch in Johannesburg. The company continued to innovate, purchasing a CO2 laser in 2016 to mark wooden dipsticks and acquiring its first factory in Prospur Park, Boksburg, in 2018. Heath Coleman joined as a director in 2019, bringing his expertise in the petrochemical industry.
Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Rigana maintained operations and supported its staff. The company expanded internationally in 2021 with the establishment of a UK branch and introduced significant production upgrades, including new machines and paster fillers. Rigana also developed the RTR Digital Tank Thermometer, a new innovation in its product line. In 2022, Rigana celebrated 40 successful years in business. The following year, Factory Supervisor Nicholas Kweyama celebrated 25 years of dedicated service. In 2024, Rigana opened a branch in Cape Town, further increasing its accessibility across South Africa, and expanded the Boksburg factory, setting up a production line for marking seals.
